A lone surfer walks out into the waves on San Elijo State Beach, located in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Encinitas, California.
It was only the previous morning I had had my very first surfing lesson. The weather was some of the worst Jess, who had grown up surfing in the area, had ever seen. Still, as ridiculous as it was, we decided to just go for it. We each caught some waves, and drank a lot of seawater. My respect for the sea and how I saw waves instantly changed. I think I remember mentioning waves at least a dozen times throughout the rest of the day.
This scene, however, was the following day. The wind and waves had calmed down. The sun was visible in the sky again, and there was no rain.
